Etiology
- Congenital Hydrocele
- Due to patent processus vaginalis.
- Peritoneal fluid flows into the scrotum ( Communicating Hydrocele )
- Peritoneal cavity may not be in direct communication with the scrotum ( Non – Communicating Hydrocele
- Due to patent processus vaginalis.
- Acquired Hydrocele
- Due to Trauma, Tumour, Torsion, infection ( Wuchereria bancrofti )
- Idiopathic causes
Clinical Features
- Fluctuant painless swelling
- Positive transullimnation

- Ultrasound – Hypoechoic Fluid
Differential Diagnosis
- Testicular Tumour
- Inguinal Hernia
Treatment
Congenital Hydrocele – Resolves within 6 months
Surgery
- After six months without resolution
- Discomfort
- Infertility
